ABRASIVE COMPARISON
Garnet vs Copper Slag: A Buyer’s Comparison
Both materials are in the Rajan Traders catalogue for blasting enquiries. Compare the offered grade and your process, rather than deciding from the material name or price per tonne alone.
Scroll the table sideways to compare both materials.
| Consideration | Garnet abrasive | Copper slag |
|---|---|---|
| Use case | Discuss garnet for blasting; specify waterjet requirements separately. | Discuss copper slag for abrasive blasting and surface preparation. |
| Cutting action & finish | Check the offered grading against the specified profile and cleanliness on your substrate. | Use the same project acceptance criteria and a representative process trial. |
| Reuse | Confirm grade, recovery equipment and acceptable contamination. Do not assume a reuse count. | State whether the project uses an expendable-media process; any reuse proposal needs confirmation. |
| Dust & handling | Request the actual SDS and plan containment and spent-media handling. | Request the actual SDS and project-specific handling information; do not assume dust-free operation. |
| Packing & origin | State required pack weight, protection and origin information. Options require quotation. | Use the same packing and origin requirements for a comparable quotation. |
| Cost comparison | Compare delivered cost, measured consumption, handling, recovery and disposal for your process. | Compare the same accepted surface outcome and delivery basis, not only material weight. |
Make the comparison specific
Send the same substrate, equipment, profile specification, quantity and destination with each enquiry. For waterjet cutting, start with the machine supplier’s abrasive specification and the garnet page; a blasting-media comparison is not a waterjet approval.
Grades, sizes, packing, origin, prices and documentation must be confirmed for the actual quotation. No material is universally best and no operating performance is guaranteed here.
